It’s all part of a gardening program designed to educate children about the origins of their food, led singlehandedly by Junior Landcare Lockyer, Toowoomba and Somerset coordinator Greg Grimes. The “Healthy Eating, Healthy Children, Healthy Lifestyle Program” is all about making a difference and encouraging children to eat healthy and fresh food from their own gardens.
Now 73, Mr Grimes was a teacher for over 50 years. With a lifelong affinity for the environment, it’s only natural for him to now to volunteer his time and skills to educate children from the garden. Continue reading

My husband and I introduced our children to gardening early. We believed it was going to teach them about plants and other forms of life, the importance of sustainability, the environment, and keeping the carbon footprint low much more than any biology course would. We know how much Aussies love a good barbie, but what happens to all the BBQs when they are replaced with a flashy new one? Hard Rubbish of course!
These two pre-loved kettle BBQs were found on nature strips in our neighbourhood, and my 9 year old daughter instantly come up with the idea to plant herbs in them so we could move the herbs around the garden. So that is what we did! Continue reading
